Toe and his owner have been friends for years. Ariella from California adopted the black and white cat at the age of 21.

A lot of time has passed since then. Over the past seven years, Ariella and her cat have experienced the most important milestones in the American's life together. The 28-year-old found a partner for life, took in a puppy and another cat and eventually became pregnant.

And when she and her husband returned home from hospital with their baby a few days ago, Ariella finally fulfilled one of her greatest wishes: Toe met the baby.

Of course, the young woman from California had imagined what the first meeting between animal and child would be like. And she was certainly worried that the two might not get on so well after all.

After all, Toe was her "baby" for seven years and enjoyed a lot of attention. Now the cat had to share it with a mini-human.

Luckily, Ariella captured the moment when cat and baby met on video - because something magical happened!

In the clip, you can see Ariella's husband sitting on the couch with the baby in his arms. Toe the cat has taken a seat right next to them. After a few incredulous looks from Toe to the baby's father, the velvet paw begins to sniff the child and then cuddles up lovingly to his head.

Anyone who knows anything about cats knows that the head-to-head gesture means: "You belong to me." So the first meeting could not have turned out better.

Ariella admits to Newsweek: "I definitely cried behind the camera!" Adding, "It was three days [after giving birth], and I was recovering from a C-section, and that was a very tender moment in a very difficult time."

Since then, Toe can't seem to get enough of the baby. Over the past few days, he is said to have been gently stroking the baby's head and following his sister wherever she goes.

The video has already reached more than 2.5 million views on TikTok. In the comments, viewers rave, for example: "He's gained another best friend🥹" or "That's his baby now".
