Dog has been stuck in an animal shelter for five years: what he does there gets to the heart of caretakers

Peloponnese (Greece) - This poor dog from Greece is truly to be pitied: As a four-month-old puppy, Nelly came to a man with bite wounds from other dogs, who had to give her up after a short time for health reasons. This is how she ended up at the "Foundation For the Strays-Paws of Greece" in the Peloponnese. She has been stuck there for five years now. What she now does to arouse the interest of visitors goes right through her keepers.

The poor four-legged friend howls like crazy as soon as someone visits the dogs at the shelter. "When I arrive at the shelter, I hear her over everything and I'm already talking to her because I think she's talking too," said Petra Brouwer, co-founder of the shelter, in an interview with Newsweek this week.

Husky mix Nelly is still not completely on her own. She shares her kennel with the male dog Wii, with whom she gets on very well. Nevertheless, she is said to long for people even more.

Unfortunately, her keepers now call her "Crazy Nelly" because she howls so loudly. "She's not really a 'crazy dog' of course, it's actually a pet name that Giannis[her ex-owner, editor's note] and I gave her because she's so loud sometimes," Brouwer explained to the US magazine.

In the meantime, hardly any visitors show any interest in Nelly because she is already six years old. Yet she is said to be really fond of children and a loyal soul. "Of course, it's hard to make people who haven't met her realize how wonderful and loving she really is," says Brouwer.

Nevertheless, the Greek does not want to give up hope. She is looking towards the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Because she is hoping for greater interest there. "We are looking for someone who has a lot of time for her. She is loyal and caring," appeals the animal keeper.
