In the late hours of Tuesday evening, Lille supporters were attacked by dozens of home fans outside a bar in the northern Italian city.

Two of them were stabbed. The French first division club made the announcement just a few hours before the match at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

"The club unreservedly condemns this cowardly and intolerable attack, which goes against all the values of soccer," the official club statement continued.

According to consistent media reports, 80 people, apparently linked to the Italian first division club, attacked around 30 Lille fans in the university district.

According to the local police, metal bars and belts were used in addition to knives. However, this has not been officially confirmed.

Footage circulating on the internet shows the alleged altercation. A total of three people were injured, but further details are not yet known.
