Bad riots at soccer match: 100 people feared dead
Guinea - Disturbing images are circulating on social media like X, showing brutal riots following a soccer match in Guinea, West Africa. Violent clashes broke out after a match in N'Zerekore, leaving 100 people dead.
The videos show hundreds of people chasing each other on the streets of the city, climbing over walls to get to safety.
"In the hospital, bodies are lined up as far as the eye can see. Others are lying on the floor in the corridors. The morgue is full," a doctor told the French news agency AFP.
The terrible riots are said to have been triggered by a controversial decision by the referee during the soccer match. The fans then stormed the pitch.
In the course of the riots, a police station in the city is also said to have been set on fire.
The soccer match is said to have been part of a tournament in honor of Guinea's President Mamadi Doumbouya (44). He came to power in a coup d'état in 2021 and appointed himself head of state.
