Fabiana had left for school as she did every morning, but she never arrived.

Her parents then began a desperate search for her - supported by their other three children, reports the local news portal cronica.

Then came the shocking discovery: the eight-year-old was found in a wooded area not far from her home. She had been stabbed 13 times, raped and then left lying on the spot.

Despite her serious injuries, she was still alive when her eleven-year-old sister found her.

The girl was immediately taken to hospital, but her situation was critical. On the way there, she is said to have whispered a crucial piece of information in her father's ear: "Nanico did this to me." Shortly afterwards, she drew her last breath and succumbed to her injuries.

Marcelo D. M. (34), better known by his nickname Nanico, is a neighbor of the Sirino family and became the focus of the investigation because of Fabiana's last words.

The 34-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody. The investigation is still ongoing.
