Accident in the Alps: cable car crashes into mountain station - several injured
Val Thorens - A cable car crashed this Tuesday morning in the Val Thorens ski resort in the French Alps .
A gondola crashed into the mountain station at over 3,000 meters in very difficult weather conditions, the prefecture responsible announced.
There were 16 construction workers on board the gondola. Six people were injured, two of them seriously.
The ski resort is due to open in a few days.
As the local newspaper"Dauphiné libéré" reported, the workers were on their way to a construction site where a new mountain restaurant is to be built.
There was initially no information about the cause of the accident. As things stand, the station is still due to open next Saturday.
