Possible coke scandal surrounding scandalous referee: Did he have something to do with Germany's European Championship exit?
England - Not good times at all for England's scandalous referee David Coote (42). Shortly after a video made the rounds on the internet showing the referee insulting Liverpool FC and, in particular, German cult coach Jürgen Klopp (57) to a friend , the next scandal has hit him.
Now another video with even more explosive content has surfaced on the internet, as Coote is said to have been snorting coke in a hotel room the day after Germany's European Championship exit.
The Sun published a recording in which someone can be seen snorting white powder with a banknote. No person can be seen, but it is allegedly Coote.
He is said to have sent the video to a friend. He is also said to have sent a photo from Frankfurt on July 1 showing a credit card on a saucer and six "chopped up" white lines next to it.
If the photos are genuine and really show him, this could definitely be the end of his refereeing career.
A piquant fact: as the Sun reports, the Englishman is said to have acted as assistant video referee during the DFB team's bitter elimination against Spain, even though he was not officially assigned.
Did David Coote act as assistant to the video referee during the handball scandal in the DFB quarter-final?
Of course, this raises a lot of questions in connection with the insults against German coach Jürgen Klopp. Germany were denied a crystal-clear penalty, which UEFA even admitted months after the European Championship.
Referee Anthony Taylor (46) did not point to the spot, the VAR, which on that day was allegedly manned by Stuart Atwell (42) from England and Bartosz Frankowski (38) from Poland, intervened, but decided: no penalty!
Taylor did not even look at the clear handball by Marc Cucurella (26) himself. A possible conspiracy against the DFB team?
That will probably never be clarified. Officially, Coote was already on duty as assistant video referee for the round of 16 match against Denmark .
In any case, the 42-year-old has a lot of trouble on his hands, as UEFA is said to have long since got wind of the video with the white powder and suspended the referee on Tuesday as a result.
Just one day earlier, he was suspended in England after the video with the nasty insults against Klopp went public.
Within two days, his refereeing career seems to have come to a bitter end.
