Family man stages own death to live abroad with new wife
Waterton (USA) - A family from the US state of Wisconsin is currently experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions: first the head of the family disappears without a trace on a kayaking trip, then a short time later the father (45), who was thought to be dead, is suddenly wanted by the authorities abroad. The police suspect a perfidious plan.

Ryan Borgwardt was reported missing on August 12 when he failed to return from his kayaking trip on Green Lake .
His family feared the worst when rescuers eventually discovered an overturned kayak, a life jacket and the 45-year-old's vehicle in the area of the lake.
For eight weeks, specially trained officers and dive teams searched for the Watertown family man, who was thought to have tragically drowned, according to the New York Post .
But in reality, the father of the family was apparently already on the run to Europe!
During the investigation, the sheriff's office also checked the missing man's computer and extended the investigation abroad.
It turned out that the man's name had been checked by law enforcement authorities in neighboring Canada just one day after he was reported missing.
The authorities found some suspicious traces on the US-American's laptop: Ryan had communicated online with a woman from Uzbekistan before his disappearance. He had also opened a new bank account, found out about transferring money to foreign banks and then tried to delete his search history and data on the computer.
But the Internet does not forget and the investigators found ways to access the sensitive data anyway.
Family man staged his own death

The 45-year-old had been preparing his new life for a long time: At least seven months before the kayaking trip, he had already undertaken suspicious actions, according to the police.
In January, for example, he took out a life insurance policy worth 375,000 dollars (the equivalent of around 353,800 euros) for inexplicable reasons.
He also had a new passport issued at the end of May. He left the original document with his family before his trip to Green Lake. It all looked like a terrible accident.
The authorities are certain: Borgwardt fled to Europe in August to start a new life there - presumably with another woman.
His shocked family is now trying everything to get in touch with the American: "Ryan, if you see this, please contact us or your family," explained Sheriff Mark Podoll in a press conference. "We understand that things can happen, but there is a family that wants their father back."
