Ecuador international Marco Angulo (†22) has died as a result of a serious car accident.

On October 7, he was involved in the crash in the capital Quito, in which his colleague Roberto Cabezas (†22) and another passenger died. The defensive midfielder was a passenger in the car, suffered serious head injuries and had to undergo several operations.

He was then placed in an induced coma, but was never to open his eyes again. He succumbed to his serious injuries on Monday evening.

His last club, LDU Quito, announced on X: "It is with great regret that we have to inform you that our beloved player Marco Angulo has passed away. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. His departure is an irreparable loss that will leave an indelible mark on our hearts," the statement read.

Cabezas, who died on the day of the accident, was an Ecuador U20 international, while Angulo was twice a member of the senior squad.

He played 24 minutes in two friendly matches against Australia on March 28. He made his debut exactly two years ago today, on November 12, in a friendly against Iraq.

Angulo was most recently under contract in the USA with FC Cincinnati in Major League Soccer, but was loaned out to LDU Quito in his home country in March.

Back in 2022, the player was involved in a serious car accident in Guayaquil in which his cousin was killed.

He survived the horror crash and had several guardian angels. Unfortunately, they were no longer able to save him after another accident.
