Heartbreaking: Nine-year-old dies after horrific abuse by his own father
England - A nine-year-old boy has died after a long ordeal - after his own father abused him so badly that he was left blind and with permanent brain damage.
Little Bradley Nelson (†9) has since been left severely disabled and unable to walk, talk or look after himself after his father Darren Spreadbury attacked him at their home in England in April 2016.
At the time - aged just seven months - Bradley went blind due to the violent shaking that ruptured his optic nerve. As People reports, he also suffered cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
"Bradley was blind because [his father] shook him so hard that his optic nerve ruptured and there was as much blood pooling between his brain and skull as a can of Coke," explained his mother, Sharon Boocock.
Although Bradley was initially able to leave the hospital after the incident, six years later he was readmitted due to blood poisoning and had to undergo several operations.
His mother stated that she dedicated her life to caring for her son and emphasized that despite everything, "he was always smiling and happy."
Bradley Nelson died as a result of his illnesses
"I couldn't go anywhere after 5pm because Bradley would come home from school and I was housebound," Sharon recalled.
In October of that year, Bradley was hospitalized again after catching a virus, according to a GoFundMe page . Shortly afterward, he suffered a severe epileptic seizure and two heart attacks.
"They let me be with him for another 10 minutes, then he had another cardiac arrest and they just couldn't bring him back," his mother emotionally recalled.
Police have now reopened the case to see if further charges should be brought.
His father was sentenced to four years in prison in 2018 and was given a ten-year restraining order.
