The British woman from Kirkby (near Liverpool) had actually only ordered a bicycle helmet.

According tothe Liverpool Echo, she had already seen a few holes in the packaging when the parcel arrived.

When she opened the package, she was horrified by the smell that met her. And there was a reason for this.

She found a half-decayed rat in the delivery. The stench of the animal made her "physically ill". Dinner was also canceled that day - the disgust was too great.

"It smelled like something had died. It smelled worse than my garbage cans. It made me sick and I had to throw up."

After her find, the disgusted Rachel didn't examine the box any further. "I didn't want to get anything out. I have dogs, so I'm very careful with rats because they carry diseases."

However, she rightly asks herself how this could have happened in the first place. After all, the container was already visibly damaged from the outside. "Why did the delivery person even accept the parcel in this condition?"

Naturally, she immediately contacted Amazon's customer service team, who gave her a full refund.

She also disposed of the parcel. "We order from Amazon all the time. Nothing has ever arrived in this condition," she said.

An Amazon spokesperson said: "We are sorry that this customer experience did not meet the high standards we expect. Fortunately, this is an incredibly rare occurrence and we have apologized to the customer, refunded them in full and offered them a gesture of goodwill."
