Woman goes viral with dashcam footage: Did scammers bang into her car?
Queens (New York, USA) - A TikTok video with over 35 million views is currently causing a stir. Footage from a car dashcam shows how suspected fraudsters provoke a car accident - presumably to take money from the insurance company.
Ashpia Natasha shared the clip on TikTok, in which she describes her experience. The alleged scam allegedly took place on a street in the New York borough of Queens on October 16 (local time).
Footage shows how she slams on the brakes in her car after the car in front of her pulls into her lane and the person behind the wheel suddenly slams on the brakes. She managed to brake just in time.
However, the car in front of her then shifts into reverse and slams into the front of her car. "They had a tarp over the rear windshield that fell off when they hit my car," Ashpia says in the video description. They presumably changed the driver of the car involved in the accident once again.
The four occupants then get out of the vehicle one after the other, some of them grabbing their heads and filming their car - only to allegedly ask for Ashpia's insurance and then quickly disappear again.
"It all happened so fast," said Ashpia Natasha, who posted the TikTok clip
"At the time, I didn't realize that the driver had changed cars and driven off in another car, or that it was a trap because I was driving alone and everything happened so quickly," Ashpia said. A second video she released shows the red Kia behind her, which is also suspected to be part of the gang.
Users who commented on the videos are also certain that Ashpia was taken in by fraudsters: "You can see the moment he realizes there is a dashcam," said one user. "Clear insurance fraud. Luckily you had the dashcam," commented another.
