When the horrific scene occurred last week, 7-year-old Saida Mashrash was playing in a Detroit park. There she saw an older man, identified as Gary Lansky, approaching her and greeted him with a "hello".

She had no idea of the threat the man posed.

According to WXYZ Detroit, the 73-year-old suddenly and brutally grabbed the girl by the head, pulled out a pocket knife and cut her along the neck. Fortunately, Saida was able to escape her attacker and run to safety, covered in blood.

A passer-by heard the girl's screams and rushed to her aid. Fortunately, Saida's injuries were not too serious and after a few days she was able to play outside again.

In an interview with WXYZ Detroit, she talked about the incident. Saida's family suspects a hate crime behind the act, but the Wayne Country Prosecutor's Office stated that there was no evidence of one.

The suspect, Lansky, was arrested by police and faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
