Shots had previously been fired at the Israeli embassy in the Swedish capital Stockholm late on Tuesday evening.

The Swedish public prosecutor's office sees a connection between the acts.

The operational head of the Swedish intelligence service Säpo, Fredrik Hallström, told the Swedish news agency TT on Thursday that, among other things, the target Israel and the modus operandi supported the hypothesis that Iran could have been involved in the acts against the two embassies.

The investigation is ongoing.
