Drug war in Cancún: Dream destination drowns in violence

After the bloody crime on Cancún beach, further background information has emerged.

As"El Universal" currently reports, the man who was killed is said to have been deeply involved in criminal activities. The 30-year-old is said to have been involved in the flourishing drug trade in the popular tourist destination and is alleged to have been involved in several murders.

Review: On July 28, gunmen opened fire on the beach in Cancún. A child was fatally shot in a hail of bullets - Santiago was only twelve years old. The gunmen were able to escape on jet skis. The public prosecutor's office now assumes that the 30-year-old who was killed on Wednesday was driving the getaway vehicle.

The hotel also responded. The dead man was not a guest of the posh five-star hotel and was not a member of the staff, according to a statement.

Murders like the most recent one happen with sad regularity in Cancún. Armed drug gangs wage a brutal war for power and influence on the beaches of the dream destination. Although the criminals do not usually target tourists, holidaymakers are repeatedly caught in the gangs' crossfire - sometimes with fatal consequences.
