This post is causing a stir: Is biathlon superstar announcing his retirement here?
Oslo (Norway) - After his compatriot Ole Einar Björndalen (50), he has shaped the sport of biathlon like no other and is the figurehead of the scene. But will Norway's superstar Johannes Thingnes Bö (31) soon be calling it a day?

An actually harmless post on Instagram is currently causing uproar among the fans of the five-time winner of the Winter Olympics.
Some time ago, the International Biathlon Union (IBU ) announced the venues for the 2028 and 2029 World Championships. While the hunt for precious metal will initially take place in Hochfilzen, it will be held a year later in Oslo, Norway.
Bö posted a photo showing him at his 2016 World Championship gold medal with the relay team at the legendary Holmenkollen. Underneath he wrote: "Let's see if the next generation of biathletes can defend our title in 5 years. I'm sure it's already a big goal for them to be one of the fighting four in the relay."
The words make his followers sit up and take notice, as the exceptional athlete doesn't mention in a single syllable that he will still be carrying the skis and the rifle himself in 2029.
Biathlon star Johannes Thingnes Bö is still pursuing a very big goal

That's why one user wrote: "Don't you want to defend the Dream Team title on your home track yourself?"
Bö did not have an answer. However, he may not be ending his career in the next two years. In an interview with the "NRK" portal in the summer, he said that he was chasing Björndalen's World Cup win record. Ole Einar has stood at the top of the podium an incredible 94 times. Bö is 18 victories short of breaking this mark.
In terms of world championship titles, however, the 31-year-old can become the sole record holder this winter. Both have won 20 gold medals in their careers. If Bö wins just one discipline at the World Championships in Lenzerheide in February 2025, he will replace Björndalen at the top.
The Norwegian will do anything for this unique selling point and says himself: "When others are already a bit exhausted from training, I'm basically just getting started." That almost sounds like a threat. After his post, it seems unlikely that he wants to shock the competition by 2029.
