When Frau finds out what her cat does when she is away, her heart breaks

USA - When she heard this audio, she felt quite different: last month, Reddit user Kingsley found out from her flatmate what happens in their shared flat when she is not at home. Her cat Kinoko always shows a side of herself that her owner had never seen before.

"My roommate told me she 'screamed' when I was gone," Kingsley said in an interview with Newsweek this week. Without further ado, the women agreed to make an audio recording of the cat noises next time.

Soon after, the mistress had a rude awakening: "My roommate was right - it was a horrible noise," she told the US magazine.

Kingsley, who is currently at college, is at home most of the time. "I (...) am not a party person, so I knew I would be home most of the day," she said. But the brief moments without her are clearly getting to Kinoko.

The distraught Kingsley posted an excerpt of the audio on Reddit last month to ask for advice.

Expert gives tips for solutions

Newsweek took a different approach and tried a specialist. Joanne Fernandez-Lopez, head of the veterinary department at "ABC's Puppy Zs" in Texas, spoke to the news site about possible solutions.

"In the world of feline behavior, there are few problems as stressful for both cats and their owners as separation anxiety. This condition, which is characterized by extreme distress when left alone, can manifest itself in a number of ways, but one of the most heartbreaking is excessive vocalization," said the expert.

Therefore, those affected should first have their pets examined by a vet to rule out medical causes.

You should also try to make your home more cat-friendly and reduce stress. If none of this helps, behavioral therapy should be considered, says Fernandez-Lopez.
