That's it! Barça legend says goodbye after 22 years
Barcelona (Spain) - He was a world and European champion, shaped an entire era at FC Barcelona, shone with individual class at the very highest level: now the Spanish midfield genius Andrés Iniesta (40) is retiring for good.
The 1.71-meter-tall genius is hanging up his soccer boots for good and is ending his career after 22 years. This is according to Spanish media reports.
The 40-year-old had already fueled speculation about the end of his professional career on social media this Tuesday morning, when the superstar was depicted as a mural in an Instagram video he published himself.
Clearly recognizable: The number 8 on the jersey worn by the exceptional player is twisted into an infinity symbol - the words "To my future" painted in black with a brush, in combination with the date October 8, 2024, leave little doubt about the imminent end of his career.
A decision that had already been in the offing. His contract with the Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates expired on July 1, and the midfield strategist had not found a new employer.
