More than 100 dead after tropical storm: millions affected by "Helene"
Washington - US President Joe Biden (81) wants to travel to the region devastated by the storm as soon as possible after the deadly storm "Helene". It was not just a "catastrophic" but a "historic" storm in the south-east of the USA, said Biden in the White House.
According to US broadcaster CNN, at least 115 people have died in six states.
The authorities fear that the death toll will rise. Millions of people were still suffering from the severe consequences of the strongest storm in this region to date at the beginning of the week.
"Helene" made landfall on Thursday evening (local time) as the second-highest category hurricane with wind speeds of up to 225 kilometers per hour on the Gulf Coast in the northwest of the state of Florida.
Later, "Helene" weakened to a tropical storm and moved further north over the Appalachians before dissipating completely.
It brought heavy rain - entire villages were flooded, roads were washed away and many people were trapped in their homes.
