Impaled to death: 61-year-old woman killed in bull chase
Enguera (Spain) - Yet another bull run in Spain has claimed a life. This time it was a 61-year-old female spectator.
Impaled to death!
The traditional bull run in Enguera was overshadowed by a terrible tragedy on Sunday afternoon. This is reported by the news site El Español. The victim is a 61-year-old female spectator.
A video shows numerous people waiting in a cordoned-off square for the bull to arrive. The woman, dressed in red, walks slowly across the access ramp.
But she doesn't see the fighting bull that comes charging towards her. The bull rams into the woman at full speed, impaling her and hurling her across the square. She remains motionless. Daredevils try to lure the agitated animal away from the woman and bravely stand in its way. Meanwhile, several people rush to the victim and bring her to safety.
The 61-year-old woman was hit under the armpit by the deadly animal and died on the way to hospital.
After death during bull run: great sadness in Enguera
Following the accident, the small town of Enguera (near Valencia) is in mourning.
The municipality canceled several events of the current town festival. The solemn procession and other bullfighting events will also not take place.
As "El Español" further reports, eyewitnesses stated that the woman had crossed the ramp due to a "mistake".
Time and again, terrible tragedies occur during the traditional bullfighting events that are celebrated in many regions of Spain. Just last week, an 80-year-old man was killed when a bull jumped over the barrier and fatally injured him. Prior to that, a 62-year-old man was caught on the horns in front of the cameras.
Animal rights activists have long been concerned about such events.
