For a few beers and some money: couple tries to sell baby - whose condition is frightening
Rogers (Arkansas/USA) - What were they thinking? A young couple allegedly tried to sell their two-month-old baby - for six beers and 1000 US dollars (the equivalent of around 890 euros).
On Sunday, the handcuffs finally clicked and Darien Urban (21) and Shalene Ehlers (20) were arrested. Now they have to stand trial for endangering a minor.
But what actually happened? Law & Crime is in possession of court documents. According to these documents, the two tried to get rid of their son on September 21 - for some money and their favorite drink.
They had a contract drawn up by an acquaintance in the hope of making a withdrawal impossible. In the contract, both the potential buyer and the parents made it clear that they would not be allowed to change their minds after the sale.
The particularly curious thing about this was that several people were involved. Both when the contract was written and when the baby was offered for sale.
In the end, a witness contacted the police, reported the strange interactions and drew attention to the baby's condition.
Baby is in a bad condition and has to go to hospital!
The little boy smelled strongly of faeces, was wearing an overflowing diaper, had a severe rash and blisters on his skin, and the neighbors also found dog hair in the child's diaper.
The officers immediately took action. While the baby was taken to hospital, his parents were taken into custody.
What exactly drove Urban and Ehlers to want to sell their own flesh and blood is still unclear. According to one potential buyer, the mother is said to have said in a sales pitch that it just wouldn't work - three dogs and a baby in one household.
