On a campsite: Grandpa and grandson found dead in a tent

Powys (Wales/Great Britain) - It is a terrible tragedy . The bodies of a grandfather (66) and his twelve-year-old grandson were found in a tent on a campsite in Wales. The two apparently died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

It was supposed to be a fun camping trip with the family. But that night, the silent killer struck.

All help came too late for Kaicy Brown (†12) and David Brown (†66). The tourists from England were found lifeless in their tent by relatives on the morning of September 15 and immediately taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The two presumably died of carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a hotplate, according to theDaily Mail newspaper, citing police reports.

Only the day before, Kaicy, an uncle and his grandfather had traveled from Berkshire (England) to spend the weekend in the unspoilt countryside of central Wales. While Grandpa David and Kaicy shared a tent, the uncle had pitched his own tent right next to it. When he tried to wake them up the next morning, it was already too late.

A toxicology report is now to determine the carbon monoxide content in the 12-year-old's blood, the coroner Graeme Hughes announced.

Carbon monoxide: An underestimated danger

Kaicy, who lived with his grandpa and grandma Mandi, is already sorely missed by his classmates and teachers.

"Kaicy was a kind, thoughtful and sensitive boy who lit up any room with his smile and good sense of humor," read a statement published by the school on the GoFundMe donation platform to pay for a dignified funeral for the deceased.

He was an "exceptionally talented artist" who made friends quickly and was "loved by his classmates and adults for his easy-going nature and willingness to help," it continued. "Many of his works still hang proudly in the school."

Tragedies like this happen again and again. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas. It enters the bloodstream via the lungs, where it binds the red blood cells and leads to death from lack of oxygen within a very short time. A common cause of poisoning: improper use of wood-burning stoves, barbecues or incorrectly installed gas boilers.
