Groom killed at his own wedding: A dangerous custom cost him his life

Jordan - This bride and groom had certainly imagined the best day of their lives differently. Instead of floating across the wedding dance floor with his new wife, a young man was shot dead during his own celebrations.

The tragic incident took place in the city of Ma'an in southern Jordan. It is customary there to fire shots of joy at weddings.

According to the Jordanian police, one of the shots, which was actually fired with good intentions, ricocheted and hit the 20-year-old groom in the chest.

According to a report on the Emirates 24/7 news portal, Hamza Al-Fanatessa was taken to hospital but died there from his injuries.

The incident caused great sadness and anger throughout the country.

The Jordanian Directorate of Public Security called on all Jordanians to break with their custom and stop firing pistols or rifles at weddings. The ritual is dangerous, reckless and repeatedly takes the lives of innocent people.

Rigorous action will be taken against those who continue to take up armsin future . As an initial reaction, the authorities announced that they wanted to bring the shooter of the 20-year-old to court.
