As the US newspaper New York Post reported, the four tormentors had also locked the woman in a dog cage in a backyard. Last Saturday, however, she managed to free herself and escape unnoticed.

The woman knocked on several doors in the neighborhood and begged for help. It is currently not known exactly how she managed to escape. However, her kidnappers - Monica Latresis Reed (37), Cortez Jackson (39), Kevin Holmes (21) and Damon Tromp (19) - have since been arrested.

They are accused of armed kidnapping with intent to commit a crime and deprivation of liberty by means of a weapon, as the local police announced in a statement on Facebook yesterday (Monday).

Reed allegedly struck her female victim in the face with a gun during the hostage situation. "The manner in which the firearm was used could have caused serious bodily injury or permanent disfigurement," the policeaffidavit said .

Was a stolen object behind the kidnapping?

The victim of the four was forced into a vehicle at gunpoint and initially restrained with a rope. They then taped the woman's mouth shut with duct tape and also bound her ankles and wrists with it. In addition, the woman was held down by two of the attackers during the journey because she resisted and tried to escape.

It is not yet clear whether the victim and the perpetrators knew each other. Apparently, the four kidnappers hoped to elicit information from the woman about her place of residence and a supposedly stolen item.

It is not known how the escaped woman is doing. The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
