Dylan (2) fights for his life after battery "exploded" in his stomach

Cananena (Mexico) - A horrific incident occurred in Mexico: little Dylan Alejandro (2) swallowed a commercially available battery while playing and suffered serious injuries. But the family is poor and cannot afford the horrendous hospital fees. Dylan's fate moves many people in the country - there is a great willingness to help.

October 23 changed everything for a family from the small town of Cananena in northern Mexico, as a report from MSN suggests. Their little son Dylan was suddenly unwell and the two-year-old had severe breathing difficulties. The worried parents immediately rushed to the emergency room.

The doctors were initially at a loss. Then an X-ray revealed that Dylan had apparently swallowed a battery. A chemical reaction had occurred. The battery "exploded" in the boy's stomach, leaking chemicals corroded his oesophagus and lungs. Acute danger to Dylan's life!

But as the small hospital did not have the necessary equipment, Dylan had to be transferred. The boy was taken to the provincial capital of Hermosillo, around 200 kilometers away.

There, the two-year-old was operated on immediately and his tiny body was connected to a ventilator. However, Dylan's condition remains critical, as the doctors explained.

Particularly tragic: Dylan's family has no health insurance, they are poor farmers. The little boy's future is uncertain. It is questionable whether the two-year-old will ever really recover, as he will probably have to rely on very expensive medicine for a long time.

Friends and acquaintances call for donations

Dylan's mother, Nayeli Guadalupe Coronado, did not give up.

The mother of nine wrote to reporters and politicians on social networks, told them about her son's sad fate, posted her cell phone number online and pleaded for donations - so that the family could buy Dylan's expensive medicine.

What followed was a wave of willingness to help. Many people from all over Mexico donated. A huge relief for the family. But Dylan's condition is still critical and the little boy is still fighting for his life. His mother will not leave his bedside.

Experts and authorities warn that many batteries contain toxic substances. Mercury and lithium can cause chemical burns if swallowed, as saliva and stomach acid activate the electric current. Fatal injuries can occur within two hours.
