Shootings with five injured at Spring Break: State of emergency declared!
Miami Beach (Florida/USA) - Miami Beach is currently celebrating Spring Break. Five people have already been injured in shootings!

Last weekend was a grim one for residents and tourists in Miami Beach in the US state of Florida. Shootings occurred twice. A total of five people were injured, including several police officers.
Because it is spring break, when thousands of teenagers and young adults traditionally party outside, the city is assuming a great danger for residents and guests.
A curfew has therefore been declared from Thursday night. On the nights of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, people are not allowed to be outside in South Beach between midnight and 6am.
Exceptions are only made for residents and hotel guests who can provide appropriate documentation for their stay in the district.
During the curfew, the police will close off access roads and patrol the world-famous Ocean Drive, which was converted into a pedestrian zone during the coronavirus pandemic, and the neighboring streets, reports the Miami Herald.

Miami's mayor on the crowds: "We just put up with it."

The spring break crowds in Miami Beach, however, are not a welcome phenomenon: "We don't ask for it, promote it or encourage it [to come to the city]. We just put up with it," said Mayor Dan Gelber (61) at a press conference on Monday.
Politicians are clearly not getting a grip on the violence problem during Spring Break. Nevertheless, the measures this year are not as forceful as last year. Because corona was a bigger problem then than it is now, the curfew was imposed from 8 p.m., for example.
Gelber hopes that the current restrictions will prevent a further escalation of violence - but: "It's very difficult to stop idiots and criminals from doing certain things."
Hundreds of thousands more tourists are expected next weekend as the world-famous Ultra Music Festival takes place. Whether there will be fewer riots then remains to be seen.
